This makeup is so innovative and new it can feel overwhelming when you are starting out. If you feel a little overwhelmed, that’s ok! It’s totally normal! I understand and I am here to help!
Putting together your compact
First things first, let’s put your compact together! Maskcara IIID foundation was created to be simple and easy so that all of your makeup could fit into one compact! Every Maskcara product is sold in individual tins so it can fit into your magnetic compact.
Putting your compact together is so easy! Your makeup will come in individual tins. You just need to slide the lid off and pop your tins into your magnetic compact. On the bottom side of each tin it will say the name of your color and what product it is. For example, your tin could say Aura and Highlight so you know that color is your highlight. If you ordered two highlights the lighter color is meant to highlight all over your face and the deeper color can be an all over color or just in the outer parts of your face.
I recommend putting your creams in one layer of your compact and powders in the other layer. This will just help keeping your powders out of your creams and not mixing. But if you didn’t get a double layer compact you can certainly place all tins in one layer! It’s totally fine!
There is no right way to placing your tins. You can decide where you like each tin to fit. When I place my tins in my compact I usually place them according to how I put them on my face. I start with my highlight color so I will place my highlight color first. Then, contour and lip + cheek. Lastly, I place my illuminator. I use cream and powder illuminators so I keep my creams together and place my powder illuminators in the second layer with my other powders. You can read all about illuminators and the difference here.
Prime your face
It is not essential that you use a primer with cream foundation. Primers are sticky and give your makeup something to stick to. There are also used to help your makeup stay on longer. I don’t use a primer and I’ve never had any problems with staying power. If you like using a primer just don’t use one that has silicone in it. It can make your makeup slide right off because it cream foundation is so soft and hydrating.
When using a moisturizer before you apply your makeup I recommend using a light moisturizer and giving it time to soak in completely. If you face is too oily the cream foundation may have a hard time sticking.
If your face is naturally oily I recommend starting with Stay Spray as your primer. Spray the stay spray all over and let it completely dry. It only takes a minute then, apply your makeup and be sure to use a bit of setting powder.
If you have naturally dry skin you probably don’t need a primer with cream foundation. You can still use your stay spray after your apply your makeup to help it stay on all day.
Using your makeup for the first time
Now, it’s time to try your makeup for the first time! I am so excited for you to try it! Remember, this makeup is new to most people and if you haven’t used cream foundation before it can feel a bit different starting out and perhaps even take a bit to get used to.
You don’t need much product! Cream foundation has 40% opacity coverage whereas liquid and powder foundation usually range from 10-12% opacity. This means that cream foundation covers much more than traditional foundation so you don’t need a lot of product to get a great coverage.
Tap your brush into your foundation tins. You don’t need to scrap or swipe your brush. You will end up with way too much product. Just tap or dab your brush into the product. If you like a lighter coverage you are going to swipe the makeup onto your face. If you like a medium to full coverage you are going to dab the product onto your skin. I prefer to use a method of dab and swipe to achieve the perfect coverage. Dab where you need more product and swipe where you need less product/more blending.
I’ll say it again, you really don’t need a lot of product! Cream goes a long way while still providing great coverage.

Transition period
Because cream is usually a new foundation for most people there can be a period of time where your skin is “getting used to” the makeup. Sometimes when your skin is adjusting to something new it can cause break outs. This does not mean the makeup is causing your skin to break out. It is just that your skin is adjusting and it will clear up within a couple of weeks. I recommend using the makeup consistently for at least two weeks so your skin can adjust and you can begin to love the magic of cream!
I never had any problems with break outs when I started using cream foundation and most of my customers are fine too just know that it’s a possibility. If you are still having trouble after using it for a solid two weeks than there could be additional adjustments that need to be made so please contact me and I can help!
Blend, blend, blend
Cream foundation is so magical that it can be applied rather “sloppy” and still blend beautifully together. Don’t worry about getting the “perfect” placement of your colors the first time. As you keep using it you will practice and figure out where you like to place your makeup for your face. Again, there is no right or wrong way to place your foundation but if you need more help please read about highlighting and contouring here.
Stick to your HAC girl guide that came with your makeup to help you place your colors.
Maskcara has a wonderful Perfector Sponge that will blend your makeup flawlessly and pick up any extra product. Dab the sponge all over your face softly. Before you use your perfector sponge you need to get it wet but ring out all of the water so the sponge is light and bouncy. You don’t even want to sponge to be damp because it could take off more product than you like. Getting it wet and squeezing out all the water will just make the sponge light and bouncy. Bounce the sponge all over and if you need more blending you can lightly roll the sponge in certain areas.
You can also use the “blend as you go” method and dab your product right into your skin as you apply. I prefer to blend with the B Squared Brush. This brush is big and light and fluffy! It’s perfect for bronzer and blush and I also use it to blend my all over foundation.
